Ringing in the Holidays with Christkindlmarket Des Moines

Is there anything better than seeing your hard work turn into something real? I would argue it’s one of the best feelings in the world. That’s why huge congratulations are in order for Des Moines European Heritage Association’s dedicated volunteers. This weekend, December 4-6, 2016, the organization will put on the first annual Christkindlmarket Des Moines. This is a brand new Christmas market that’s bringing the feel of European markets to Central Iowa.

I started working with DMEHA almost a year ago as their marketing and event intern. It was an awesome position. My supervisor, Suzanne Hull, gave me just enough structure that I knew what I was doing while still allowing me to contribute my own ideas and strategies. At the end of that internship, I had all kind of new experience in creating content for social media, blogging and event planning.

I got involved with the organization because I loved the idea of bringing something new to Des Moines. Still, it was hard to imagine the end product when there was so much work ahead. I quickly learned there was little to worry about. Suzanne and the other volunteers worked tirelessly to raise money, organize the event and promote it to the area. I watched interest in the event grow. I’ve talked to countless people who were excited to get involved and attend. While I was only able to work with them for a few months, I was so impressed with their dedication. Now the market is so close opening and I can’t wait to experience it. All that stands in my way is two days and one volunteer shift.

I can’t encourage people enough to come out and see what Christkindlmarket Des Moines has to offer. Your support could help this tradition live on for years!
